About Us

The Applied Molecular Profiling Laboratory (AMPL) is part of the Ontario Cancer Institute (OCI) / Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH), associated with the University Health Network (UHN).

Core technologies for three analytical platforms Cytomics, Genomics and Pharmacokinetics are used for discovery and validation of biomolecule targets for research purposes of cancer pathology and experimental therapeutics.

AMPL has scientific and laboratory expertise in the use of primary xenografts grown orthotopically. These provide a more clinically relevant setting in which to identify mechanisms of cancer progression, and test the pharmacodynamic effects of novel agents including the potential for drug interactions.

Clinical-molecular correlative studies are performed to support the Radiation Medicine Program, and PMH Phase II Consortium, the only non-US based consortium of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) sponsored phase II clinical trials of new anti-cancer drugs. Currently, AMPL has generated biomolecular data for over 19 clinical trials including 9 in-house studies.

AMPL collaborates with scientists to develop methodologies and to discover & validate novel biomolecular targets. We've had a long standing interaction with program projects such as the Tumour Microenvironment Group at OCI developing and applying image analysis methods to investigate the role of hypoxia on cancer progression and treatment outcome.

Collaborators of AMPL that offer complimentary programs are the Ontario Translation Research Network (OTRN), Ontario Cancer Biomarker Network (OCBN), Spatio-Temporal Targeting and Amplification of Radiation Response (STTARR), and Advanced Optical Microscopy Facility (AOMF).
