Updates

Reports for 4th quarter and annual 2009 are in the mail. The newsletter and graph group have been posted to the Resources section of the site. As well, supplies have been printed and distributed. Please contact the Project Office if your unit requires more supplies.

Graph Groups Online

Along with being able to see all the newsletters to date, you can now download the graph groups for those newsletters. Click on the graphs link corresponding to the newsletter to download the graph group and follow the simple steps. Once downloaded from our site, the graphs will then need to be loaded into your MacsFlirt program (using Data Tools -> Import) to be viewed, printed, and used!

We're Getting Greener!

We recycle! We have reduced!

Now we would like to work with you to reuse. Each quarter we send out a CD-R with your centre’s entire data set on it. These are re-writeable CDs with more than 700MB of space available to use.  Despite how long some centres have been participating, the data sets we send out each quarter are nowhere near this large! Should you want to return your older data discs (and not have piles of them in your office), please feel free to drop one into each envelope of forms each week. The forms will act as padding for the CD’s return trip and we can then reuse the disc for your future data sets. We always label our data sets with the date of generation, so there will be no confusion as to which one is the most recent.

AHA and Prehospital ECGs

As you know, Macstrak started tracking EMS information, including EMS arrival times and ECG information, a few years ago in recognition of the important part that EMS plays as the first medical contact with ACS patients. The AHA has recently published a statement on integrating pre hospital ECGs into care for ACS patients. This article can be found in the AHA Journal, Circulation.

The Macstrak Project
Managing the Acute Coronary Syndromes:
A Tracking Project

The Macstrak Project is a quality assurance tool focused on Management of the Acute Coronary Syndromes. It was created by caregivers for caregivers. It provides participating centres with the tools they need to measure the care they provide, assess compliance with benchmarks and guidelines, and intervene to improve the quality of the care they provide. Macstrak also provides a comprehensive registry of cardiac patients and serves as a valuable tool for the analysis and refinement of cardiac care at a national level.

Macstrak is based at the University Health Network, a teaching hospital of the University of Toronto. It has been in continuous service since 1994 with participation from over 160 hospitals. This history ensures a proven clinical tool which continues to evolve to allow the measurement of new cardiac care standards.

Macstrak data can be used for:

  • accreditation
  • quality assurance
  • intervention
  • tracking trends in patient care
