Research Ethics Board (REB) Home
The REB oversees all research involving human subjects conducted under the auspices of the University Health Network to ensure that such research meets the highest scientific and ethical standards in order to protect patients, investigators and the institution.
The UHN REB is responsible for approving and monitoring many studies initiated each year involving human subjects as well as monitoring ongoing studies lasting in excess of one year.

New Unanticipated Problem Reporting Requirements
Please note that the UHN REB has overhauled the process for the reporting of unanticipated problems, including adverse events and protocol deviations.
The UHN REB has prepared a guidance document to explain the new reporting requirements, as well as a new form. These documents are intended to provide a new, consolidated framework for reporting unanticipated problems to the UHN REB.
Additionally, a "Letter to Sponsors" from the UHN REB Co-Chairs is now available for use by UHN sites in informing Sponsors of the new REB requirements.
These reporting requirements are now mandatory. We thank all of those who attended presentations at the UHN sites for their constructive feedback and carefully considered
questions.

New Process: E-mailing submissions to the REB Office
Please note that the REB has started accepting all types of submissions via e-mail as of August 10, 2011. We hope to fully transition to receiving all submissions via e-mail by the end the year. While you still have the option to submit in hard copy, we encourage you to make use of this mode of submission. In addition, to avoid confusion and delays in processing your submission, we recommend that you only adhere to one method of submission for each of your submissions (e-mail or hard copy).
Please note that if you would like to take advantage of e-mail submissions to our office we request that you follow the steps outlined on our website.
